In a 2015 survey ran by Software Advice, a company that does reviews of VoIP products, 54 percent of the respondents said that they are comfortable using the softphone in the office. They also affirmed that they have been using softphones on a daily basis. A softphone is a software app installed into your current phones, whether they are landlines or smartphones, to allow you to make calls through your computers. The software actually transforms your phone and makes it a channel for digital communication.
A softphone is different from softphone apps, like Skype or Facetime, which also allow you to make calls through computers. This article takes pains to differentiate the two, and then gives three good reasons why business owners like you should use a VoIP softphone rather than having your employees use their smartphone apps to do computer-related calls. To begin with, the efficiency and quality of the call being made through the smartphone apps depends on the quality of the phone unit. If your sales man’s cellphone is overloaded or has bad connections, then the softphone app will work poorly.
VoIP softphones remove that risk by making the quality of computer-related calls in all your phone systems uniformly high. They also enhance the security of your data transmission, preventing leakage and compromise – something which an individual smartphone cannot guarantee, especially if the owner (e.g. your sales manager) did not install proper security features.
